Same one-piece, machined aluminum design as our standard Picatinny scope bases, with oversized, 8-40 tpi mounting screws for greater gripping force that’s ideal for heavy, long-range scopes. Requires drilling out and tapping factory receiver holes to accept the larger screws.

SPECS: 6061 T6 aluminum, hardcoat anodized, matte black. Includes four steel, 8-40 tpi Torx mounting screws. Requires drilling and tapping of receiver to accept 8-40 tpi screws. Fits Remington 700 long action (LA).

Nice mount ...BUT! (10.08.2012)

Really nice mount for the price, but the screws they provided were ridiculously SHORT and only extended HALF way into the receiver..I bought this knowing the existing 6-48 receiver screw holes needed to be drilled and re-tapped to stronger 8-40 (supposedly provided) which is what I do any way to all my receivers before mounting bases any way but was disappointed to find the 8-40 screws provided where way too short for any adequate holding strength..I usually have extras but not this time and 8-40 screws are not exactly laying around or obtainable at the hardware so had to order more of proper length and that sucked...Otherwise great mount for the price...

Good Value Base (22.06.2015)

Base is very well made but a bit higher than it needs to be so unless you have an adjustable height cheekpiece on your stock, you need to raise your head up more to properly see through the scope. I have this model base for both my long and short action Remington 700 rifles and it was easy to drill out and tap the receiver to take the larger 8-40 screws included with these bases. Depending on the scope mounted, one may need to shorten the front of the base to clear the objective bell as it extends about 1 1/2" beyond the receiver. Since the base is made of aluminum, cold blue cannot be used to touch it up so paint is needed. An added benefit of using a picatinny type rail base instead of standard scope bases is that one can easily mount things like night vision devices on the rail. A steel version would be nice.

Bombproof (03.11.2016)

Bought this to put on my M40 custom build. Heavy duty and bombproof. I told my smith I wanted to build a M40 based sniper rifle that I could drive tent pegs with and take a cold bore shot at 1000yds and get the hit. This scope base helped me accomplish that goal.

Not Pleased (06.03.2015)

This rail is labeled as standard but seems extremely high to me. Didn't work for my rifle / optic combination at all. Ended up being a waste of $40.

Four stars overall, but one caveat. (03.11.2016)

I installed this on my son's Rem 700 LA. I had opened the mounting holes to 8-40 on a mill. the new base aligned PERFECTLY with the new holes. The finish is a flat black matte on an aluminum body. Light weight precision machined. NOW why only four stars? The screws that it comes with do not fit the rear two holes, only the front, I had to swap in two longer 8-40 screws I had on hand. If Brownell's could please include the correct length screws this mount would be five stars!
