always reads(01.05.2014)
Great product it always gives a speed no matter what the conditions. I use it to developed my loads for shooting long range. The way it attaches to the barrel, it has fallen/been blasted off because it loosens up. If you remember to tighten every 5 shots or so no problems
NO MORE HASSLES!(24.07.2014)
Anyone who has used a "standard" chronograph on a public range knows the hassles with setting up your chronograph and retrieving data. And of course there are the problems with getting readings in the rain, on bright sunny days, or when the conditions aren't perfect for the sensors. The Magnetospeed takes care of all those issues. I have compared my Competition Electronics ProChrono with my Magnetospeed and get virtually identical readings, so all my old CE data is perfectly useful when doing on-going load development based on my old CE chrono.
The one issue that I have with the Magneto Speed and why I still use my old Prochrono (besides for load development for my semi-auto and short barreled pistols) is that your point of impact WILL be different with and without the bayonet attached. Depending on caliber and bullet weight, I have seen as much as 1-1.5 inches shift (and not always in the same direction) of my groups. Group size doesn't appear to be affected, but POI does shift.
If you do a lot of load development for semi-auto pistols and short barreled revolvers, you will still need a "standard" chrono, but for rifle and long barreled (4" +) revolvers the Magnetospeed is the ticket! And you will certainly be the centerpiece of attention at most ranges with all the other shooters asking you "What is that?"
It works as advertised.(19.08.2014)
As the other two reviewers have said - 5 stars. Yes, it does affect POI (for me about 1", shooting .223), but not grouping. It works all the time, every time, once you set it up and get the trigger threshold right for your gun. No worries about cloud cover changes, rain, it doesn't matter. Only problem I've had was that I didn't tighten the bayonet mount tight enough and it failed to record as it lost position on the barrel. [This review is for version 1. It doesn't look like there are changes other than expanding and upgrading the software and the screen.]
So easy!(29.09.2014)
Just to let you know that I have received and tested the Magnetospeed. Until then, I was using the Oehler 35P and I must say the new one is a dream as far as flexibility and ease of use is concerned. It helped pinpoint a pressure problem in a friend's rifle in 5 minutes. I totally endorse this
product.
An essential device made practical(31.10.2014)
I have been using another, top rated, chronograph for the past 20 years but getting the magnetospeed made it so easy to bring to the range for testing my hand made ammo in my Bench Rest rifles that it has become part of the kit; and it really helped other shooters around: so much so that they are ordering, too!
Quick and Easy Chrono!(18.07.2015)
Quick and easy to set up. Doesnt have to be sunny conditions. Accurate readings. Would have given 5 star, except it will change your bullet point of impact while using. Knowing this, just load extra rounds and use it to finish up on your load data.
Consistently Dependable, Very Reliable (17.08.2015)
This is the best chronograph that I have ever used. It is extremely reliable and gives very useful data after each and every shot. The data manipulation is also very well thought out.;Transferring data to my iPhone is very intuitive and easy. I would encourage this purchase with conviction.
Spend time mounting the bayo to the rifle as per the included instructions and you will have no issues for your entire range session.
Highly recommend.
NOT FOR SHOTSHELL LOAD TESTING!(25.07.2016)
After several calls to the manufacturer for help in adjustments; I was not able to get any sort of reliable data from this chronograph. The company's final suggestion was that "it works fine with steel shot". However, 99% of shotshell reloaders do not load steel shot, so their advertising that it is fully functional for shotgun load testing is misleading at best! From what other reviewers have experienced with handguns or rifles I am sure it works fine for that use. However, DO NOT buy this and expect to use it for shotshell loads. Finally, the manufacturer's Customer Support was not overly interested in helping me to make their product function as advertised. I would rate their customer support as "Very Poor". I am in the process of returning this item as just Not Usable for testing shotshell loads.
Love my V3(30.09.2016)
Great product! If you don't want to ever miss another reading buy this and forget about the price! Easy to set up and use. Blows my conventional chrony out of the water. Works in all light, day or night. Will even chrono a machine gun up to 600 rounds per min I believe. Works by magnetic field disturbance and the sensitivity is adjustable for reliable readings.
Very convenient(19.03.2017)
This chronograph is excellent if you are testing only one rifle. When shooting multiple rifles it may be more practical to use a traditional chronograph, because you may need to switch out shims for different barrel thicknesses and bore diameters to get the right gap for the sensor. However data obtained from this chronograph is accurate and I find it's modularity very convenient.
Way better answer !!!!(26.06.2017)
Having gone from a low cost skyscreen type, to this, this is unbelievable ! I highly recommend this unit, ! no hassles at the range, flawless functioning on my rifles, not difficult to adjust, just about perfect. If you a serious re-loader this is the one to get.
Replaced an old PACT unit with this...(01.02.2018)
I have had mine now for over a year and it has worked FLAWLESS!. Very happy with the unit. Properly set up per the detailed instructions you will never miss a shot, nor have near by shooters "Trip" your chronograph from muzzle blast. I like the compact size and ease of set up. No more waiting for the line to clear to adjust or set up/down. Easy to read the data on the screens with lots of options. Unit sits within reach and doesn't take up any more room than a box of Ammo.
A quick tip:
I have numbered all of the barrel "shims" and keep a note book inside the case. Each time I record data on a new firearm, I record the number stacking sequence of the shims in order to make using it the next time with that particular gun very fast. Also just be sure to securely tighten the barrel strap and it wont move. Mine stays put each and every time properly installed and tightened.
