Very pleased with the results(16.04.2014)
I used this to bed a benchrest rifle. The stock is a Kelbly's model and I could not be more pleased with the results. I used Brownell's spray release agent and the bedding job turned out with no flaws and the action popped right out when the material had cured. I have also used the Steel Putty with equally good results. The aluminum putty seems to save a little on weight without sacrificing any appreciable strength for the application.
High quality product(29.05.2011)
The stuff does what is is supposed to. Slightly "thick" to be easy to work with as bedding, but manageable. Somewhat expensive but results are of highest quality.
Not impressed(05.11.2011)
I have bedded numerous stocks. I bought the Devcon Steel Putty because of different reviews I ahve seen. I was not impressed. The consistency when mixed is that of peanut butter and it is some what good to work with. However, that is where the praise stops. Didn't bed worth a darn. Good if you need to bed a recoil area but as far as the rest of the inletted areas, it was not what I expected. Properly cleaned/degreased stock and had trouble adhering to the synthetic stock. I would recommend this only for recoil lug areas but I will stick with Acraglass for all my beeding jobs.
Easy to work with(30.12.2011)
Great product. Easy to mix and it has a good working time for setup and curing. Gives a professional look when done. I've tried the steel and aluminum versions and both have worked well.
This stuff needs its own release agent(03.02.2012)
Iv used this stuff for 20+ years( in Brass, Steel, and Titanium But Mostly in Aluminium Putty "F" which Iv found to be the Best.) It all how ever is a little to thick on a normal day to work easily, and I find that I need to heat the plastic tub up by placing it in a pot of boiling water to get it to flow better, this helps But it cools quickly, and is a very expensive item here in Australia, Iv had very mixed results with it over the years, Its hard to Find a "reliable release agent" for it, I would now suggest the New NON Flammable Release agent from brownell's and while you are there buy the New Accuglass GEL Non Flammable bedding kit as well, As its a much better item and is taylormade for the job at hand, Plus the fact that the new Non Flammable Accuglass kit can be sent safely by Air to us poor folk in Australia is a very Big bonus and Accuglass is fairly priced too. Cheers to all from G Hull Australia
Expensive, but good stuff(18.06.2016)
I have bedded several rifle actions with it and have been satisfied so far. I like the putty because it's easier to control the application as it doesn't run like the liquids or gels. I use Kiwi neutral shoe polish as the release agent (see the article on stress free pillar bedding on 6mmBR.com) and it has worked fine. Because the putty is so thick, it can be a bit of a challenge to measure the proportions accurately.
Works great for me!(14.04.2017)
One poster said this stuff wouldn't stick to synthestic stocks - but it sure works ok for me, just have to know how to apply it right.
I have bedded many stocks with it over the last 25 yrs and never had any problems using it.
I use Brownells release agent - good stuff. Can also use floor paste wax or Pam Spray oil.
My only complaint is the shelf life, wish is was longer.
