Very pleased(24.09.2016)
These are one of the best looking handgun grips I have ever seen. The wood is a deep crimson with muted reddish purple streaks. Significantly, the grain lines up with the cut of the wood, which is not always the case.
The checkering is sharp enough for a good grip, but not too sharp. I don't think it will chew up my clothes. They are very thin.
The one problem was fit. The right panel fit perfectly, but the left took about half an hour with a file to fit. The wood is very tough to file. I plan on ordering a "simply rugged" holster in oxblood, which should make for a striking appearance.
Great grips(30.10.2009)
These are thin and have excellent checkering, very secure and allow you to get a very high grip on the pistol. The price is really good and the quality is solid. I would like to see a pair offered without checkering around the thumb placement for faster safety acquisition - with this change it would be second to none.
not compatable with new MK III HI POWER(03.08.2010)
screw holes ON GRIP don't match up with screw holes on BRAND NEW 9mm Hi-Power 9mm, MK III...not compatable with gun
Good product that could be great(14.09.2010)
I love how comfortable the grip size and trigger reach are with these grips. I also like the price point. That said, the checkering is a bit inconsistent and too aggressive for my taste. My only real gripe is the need for hand fitting. I had to spend 15min with a file to get the frips to fit my FM just right.
not quite worth the price(04.02.2011)
Bought these for a brand new Browning Mark 3 standard. I wanted thin grips with aggressive checkering. While they are thin, the checkering is laughable and not very sharp. The biggest problem was the amount of filing I had to do to get them lined up. For the price, I simply expected more.
good grips - some fitting may be needed(21.03.2011)
I'm very pleased with the way these grips slim-down the HiPower.
These grips were a little "squirmy" on my HiPower. Because HiPower grips are only secured by one screw per side, the inletting must be dead-nuts, or the grip panels will squirm a bit, even when the screw is tight. I fixed this on my set by putting a small dab of JB-Weld epoxy on the inside of each grip to eliminate the wiggle-room from the generous inletting. When the JB dried, I dressed the epoxy to shape so that the grips don't squirm even the slightest now.
The material seems rugged and durable, and the black looks very businesslike on the HiPower.
The cutout on the left panel for the safety is a bit tight on my set. I relieved area on the grip panel around the safety a bit with a file. Nobody would ever notice the modification, as the panels are made of a monolithic material that can be altered without leaving a scar. I also smoothed the checkering just a bit around the safety to keep the grip from grabbing my thumb while I operate the safety.
Only four stars because of the fitting adjustment that was needed to achieve perfect fit.
I uploaded a pic that shows where the JB goes. The amount of JB shown in the pic is about three times the amount that will still be on the grip after filing and fitting.
Great HP grips(16.12.2011)
I can't think of anything negative to say about these grips. The fit and finish is flawless and they required absolutely no filing or adjustments to fit and be positioned properly. They also slim down the HP quite a bit and the checkering is aggressive enough to provide a very positive grip.
The original wooden grips that came on my centennial edition HP had a certain "old school" sexiness that these grips lack, but functionally I feel the Navidrex grips are superior.
Fit Issues(25.05.2012)
There is a gap on the panels between the grip & the pistol. It's small, but you can definitely feel it when you press down. It was suggested they may need to be adjusted to fit. So, I filed a portion of the grip down near the safety to see if this extra space might help. It didn't appear to be an issue. It did not.
I've tried these on both my Browning & FN Hi Powers.
I wonder if anyone else has had this issue.
BHP Navidrex grip(11.07.2012)
I bought a pair 2 years ago and still using it. Definite improvement over the Mk3 plastic grip that slips during shooting. This is the thinnest grip I can find for the price. My friend has a pair of Spiegel delrin grips that feels and shoots identically but cost 2x as much. Fitting is slightly off. There is a small space between the right panel and the frame, although it does not affect function. I did use skate board tape on the front and back strap to aid in the grip. For the money, I think it is a good buy. Not a great buy but a good buy
Great Thin Grips(03.09.2014)
These are great grips and are the thickness the HP should ship with as stock. These turn the HP into a completely different (and better!!) feeling pistol.
Fits forged frame best(07.09.2014)
Just got my pre-order micarta grips. They fit best on a 1991 forged frame. On a 1995 cast frame they needed some sanding to fit. The checkering is finer than on previous models, still a good value for the money.
Quality grips(27.09.2015)
I love these grips, they don't have the palm swell that people love on Craig Spegel and uncle mikes grips, but they still fit well, are super thin and what I loved most was the Micarta material which I personally believe makes them superior to Spegel grips which are typically very expensive and made of exotic woods which might not hold up as well as the micarta. Some fitting is required it is minor and most hi power grips require some fitting anyway.
Great Grips(28.09.2015)
I've bought HP grips costing over twice what these do, but for the money these be hard to beat. I've bought two pair so far and I'm considering two more. They're slim nature has made shooting my HPs much easier and less tiring for my, and my wife's, smallish hands.
The fit on my two guns (Browning HP & used FEG HP) has been very good and in fact better than the factory grips that came on my 1970 "T" model. They dropped right into place with no fitting and fit was very good ... no discernible movement once they were tightened down.
One thing you need to consider if you're thinking about these grips is replacement grip screws. The OEM screws work just fine but they are designed for thicker grips and stick out of the hole just a tad once tightened down. Not enough to cut into my hand, but just a tad. I ended us using Hogue hex head screws and they fit noticeably better being a hair shorter.
Functional but not aesthetically pleasin(07.12.2015)
I wanted a slimmer grip for a well tuned Argentine FM Hi Power and was happy to find an inexpensive non-wood product. They DO fit the gun with shorter screw heads required. They definitely do NOT please my eye. If they are Micarta it is a softer version of that trademarked material. Softer than the mass market 1911 plastics I grew up seeing. The product is cast and then routed on the panels' back to ensure frame fit. There are rough tool marks completely around the edge of each panel. At the point where thumb and forefinger transition across grip, to frame and safety contact, there is roughness which required light sanding to avoid recoil chafing. The price was fair for what I got but it was an actual shock when I opened the shipping envelope. The FMs are a super basic stove blacking finish or I would have felt compelled to return them. They ARE slim and cheap, and after a few hours of gentle clean up sanding they are quite comfortable.
High Power frames naturally vary(13.12.2015)
I'm rating these as 4 out of 5 with 5 being Speigels and 4 being the Navidrex, as should be expected by the price. On the other hand, the Navidrex are made for using, not for looking at. They're about all I use on my guns and perhaps I've been lucky, but they've been a good fit on them all, including a Mk III.
The thing that some folks don't understand is that FN has always hand fit grip panels to the High Power because their frames are not entirely consistent. So some fitting may be required with any brand of grips, with the exception of the various rubber grips manufactured by Hogue or Pachmayr that stretch to fit. On the other hand, you may get the same good fit on multiple guns like I have. This explains the difference of opinion amongst the other reviews.
The Navidrex are very thin and therefore great for folks with small hands. While not deeply checkered, the gripping surface provided is more than adequate for 9mm or even 40-cal, in my experience.
Good fit, but no finish(19.09.2010)
These fit my MKIII Hi-Power very well with no gaps. They are bare wood with no finish whatsoever. I just rubbed mineral oil into them, they got a shade darker and look great. 3 stars instead of 5 because I saw no mention of them being bare wood in the description, and for [$] I expect better.
Cheap grips(08.05.2014)
I didn't expect a lot for what these cost and didn't get much. Palm Swell couldn't feel it, the Philippine Mahogany is very soft wood not good for checkering. I ended up taking the checkering off and refinishing them, they are what they are a cheap pair of grips that need a little work. On a positive note, they did fit my 1990 BHP without issues. They look much better smooth with a nice stain and finish, just my 2 cents.
