Hopefully someone from the manufacturer will read this and clear up some confusion. I just purchased this along with some carbine and rifle length 308 springs sold separately. See my question which hopefully gets published regarding this manufacturerâs carbine length 308 buffer spring. Right off the bat my confusion with their carbine length 308 buffer spring made me skeptical about this manufacturer. When I started looking at this product my confusion continued. It is labeled on their packaging as an A2 buffer extension tube. This is incorrect, it is the shorter A1 tube. Not a huge deal, I have an extra spacer to use this in an A2 stock, but they should label it correctly. It also makes no mention of it being for a 308 which really doesnt matter since AR10, DPMS pattern 308 and AR15 all take same length of rifle tube. But just for clarity... Secondly, the packaging says the assembly also contains an âar rifle bufferâ but makes no mention of it being 308. This could be confusing because it kind of lead me to think they threw an AR15 rifle buffer in there. However, upon measuring the buffer, it is indeed the 308 rifle buffer at 5.25â Long and weighing 5.4 ounces. Both Armalite and DPMS pattern 308s use this same rifle buffer. Again, would be helpful to label packaging correctly though. The label also says âAR Rifle Buffer Spring.â Same issue, no mention of 308 and more importantly no mention of Armalite or DPMS pattern because the two 308 styles use different lengths of rifle buffer springs. After measuring it, it was close to the 12.75â with 39 coils that the DPMS pattern 308 rifle buffer springs are supposed to have (it was 12.7â with 38 coils) which is not close to the Armalite patternâs 13.75â with 34 coils, so I could deduce that this setup contained an A1 rifle buffer extension tube with a 308 length rifle buffer and a DPMS patterned 308 rifle length buffer spring. The packaging needs to be fixed and the product description on Brownells should speak to the point that this assembly is for DPMS patterned 308 rifles. Am I being kind of petty, perhaps, but in the world of 308 AR platform rifles there is a ton of confusion due to the lack of a standard like the AR15 platform enjoys and so the more clarity the better. Aside from all this, I see no issues with quality or workmanship, though I have yet to install or use. And as always, Brownells processed and shipped the order very quickly!
