Works fantastic.(13.09.2009)
Makes removing or replacing handguards easy. Protective coating prevents scratching or damaging finish of firearm. Plenty of surface area making contact with magazine well to distribute stress levels below damage levels. And yes there are some out there on the market that do not have a protective coating and a small contact point that can cause indentation (dents) in your Mag well. Great product!
great!!(15.09.2009)
Makes a world of difference. No more fighting to get the handguards off.
Not all it's cracked up to be(18.11.2009)
After removing the handguard on only one rifle, the coating is broken through at the contact points with the delta ring. Even before this, the coating is not bonded to the wrench underneath and rotates around, losing much of the extra leverage it could otherwise be providing.
I will probably improve mine by removing the existing coating and replacing with an industrial, hot-glued heat shrink insulation.
Worked But Protective Covering Came Off(18.02.2010)
While trying to install some new Troy rails on my Colt M4 I used this tool and the rubberized protective covering on the removal tool ripped and started coming off. I would not recommend this tool until a different rubberized treatment was applied to the tool.
overall good tool(15.03.2010)
Makes the job of removing the handgurds very easy. Very easy on the hands. Rubber protective coating is a bit soft and is heavily scuffed after limited use. It is not torn and no metal is exposed but still reveals a minor lack of quality. Not too hard to upgrade on your own for the price value here though.
coating comes off after a few uses(25.04.2010)
Have only used a few times and the urethane coating has broken and is coming off at all contact points. Great for a single build but not for folks who want to use it for several.
Does What It Needs To(06.08.2010)
I used this tool to remove the factory handguard on my AR carbine. It worked perfectly, without any problems. It is much better than trying to remove a handguard without any tools. Save yourself the hassle and purchase this tool.
Worked good for one use(08.03.2012)
Product works like it is supposed to. Problem is the coating is already crinkled after one use. I would recomend wrapping it in black electrical tape to help sustain the coating.
"Serious Users Need Not Apply"(05.04.2012)
This is almost not worth getting... it is only good for 1 or 2 uses before the coating is worn out. Once the rubber wears away it will scratch up the delta ring and is almost impossible to keep it from slipping. Case and point: 3rd rifle I tried with this in the first day of use it slipped off a brand new stubborn/tight delta ring and my knuckles suddenly lacked skin from impacting the receiver with the force I was applying to the tool. For such limited use I would stick to manually removing the handguard by hand.. that being said if your like me and work on multiple AR's a week then you need something beefier. This wont cut it for any long term armorer duty. Save yourself the cash and just buy the stronger model that costs a bit more on here. Night and day difference and that one is actually going strong many rifles later.
Must have tool(13.08.2012)
Very handy tool with new delta ring springs, speeds up hand guard installation.
Damages Gun(20.01.2014)
Used one time and the plastic coating on the tool is so cheap that it it pushed right through to the finiish on the underside of the magazine. Left about 1/2 centimeter gouge out of the gun's black finish. Total junk. Do not buy, look for fully pollymer alternatives or tightly rubberband two tooth brushes together facing away frome one another. Works just and well and wont scratch your weapon.
Don't get this one!(29.11.2015)
First use coating came off, slipped down and marred finish. Horrible. Pay the extra few bucks and get the other one here. You wont be sorry.
priced right, easily improved(30.04.2018)
i originally purchased a significantly more expensive tool for this purpose, and it looked like it had been made by a twelve year old industrial arts student. this thing turns out to be among the least expensive of its type, has symmetrical bends, no sketchy welds, and is sufficiently stout for careful use right out of the box.
a bunch of folks have dumped on this tool for the coating peeling where it contacts the delta ring. to be safe, i found a short section of â "id vinyl tubing, and chopped off a couple of 3" lengths. they slipped right over the dipped coating already on the tool, and the thing functions flawlessly. if the magwell end of the tool ever starts to go, i'll slap some heavy shrink tube on it and it will be fine.
5 minutes of work has made this thing as good as or better than tools that cost twice the price.
